2010 NAIAS: Lexus shows LFA, no you can’t touch it

Poised on a pedestal and behind it's own security guard sat Lexus' super coupe. Powered by a 552 horsepower V10 the LFA leaps to 60 in 3.6 seconds and keeps going to 202 mph. The mostly carbon fiber car was off limits, we'd imagine that Lexus isn't ready to let the $350,000 rocket into the hands of just "any" automotive journalist just yet.

Lexus Announces 2010 GX 460

Lexus released its new luxury SUV, expected to debut at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition in China. The engine is Toyota's new 4.6 V8. While smaller than the current GX 470, the 460 packs more of a punch with 301 HP and 327 lb-ft of torque. The added power will certainly help motivate the SUV a bit better than the 4.7 V8 it replaces, which had 263 HP. Also, the LX 470 picks up a 6-Speed transmission. These features bring the GX up to 17 mpg combined from 15 mpg with the out-going 470 leaving the new GX with a 15/20 mpg city/highway rating.

IIHS Releases Safest New Vehicles for 2010

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety released its list of cars awarded Top Safety Pick. The 27 vehicle list includes 19 cars and 8 SUV's. The Big Winner? Subaru, with five of its cars winning the awards from the IIHS. The Subaru Forester, Subaru Impreza (except WRX), Subaru Legacy, Subaru Outback and Subaru Tribeca were selected, that's almost Subaru's entire lineup. Volvo and Volkswagen also cleaned up with four cars a piece taking home a trophy. Detroit was not to be out done, each Big Three Automaker had at least two cars make the list. The IIHS points out that Toyota and it's subsidiaries were absent from the list after receiving 11 awards last year, as well as BMW, Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Saab for not having qualifying vehicles. Other big surprises include the Honda Accord and Ford Fusion missing the grade for only meeting 'acceptable' standards in the new roof safety standards.
