Even if you are a subscriber, you may have never even noticed that a majority of that week’s page numbers were just a little different. The bright yellow Saleen Raptor show car on the front page stole the show but BMW, who also took out a whole page ad on page one, was trying to get your attention in a completely different way.
The March 24th edition was 48 pages long and as is normal was marked with page numbers for quick thumbing. The interesting part is that out of those 48 pages, 31 of them use the page number to offer little bits of information (sometimes useless, sometimes funny) about the new 1 Series. The only pages not marked had ads for other companies on them. The advertising ploy is obscure but in line with the approach BMW has publicly announced they are taking for the new baby-BMW. Subliminal. Maybe we’re blind or spent too much time staring at the Saleen on the cover, but it took a few days to notice the small but sometimes funny additions. Exactly the point.
