The interior of the Grand Cherokee Summit is covered in the best materials. The A-pillars and roof are of a lovely suede. You will want to touch it. The dash is soft and stitched and looks rich. Seats in front are heated and ventilated. The steering wheel is heated and is made of wood and leather.
The infotainment system in this car is one of the best in the business. No unnecessary mouse to use. You touch it. At night, it is easy to use, and everything just makes sense. The Harman Kardon audio is as good as I have ever heard in any vehicle. I’ve heard Stevie Nicks sing Silver Spring live. It sounded better in the Jeep. 19 Speakers provide a wide dynamic range, and a “soopa-bass” subwoofer you feel in your chest make this stereo something you will want to play for all your friends.
Our test car had a full Blue-Ray DVD entertainment system with individual screens and headphones in back. My kids wept with joy.
The rear seats have their own HVAC and the rear seats are heated. There are USB ports for phone charging for rear seat passengers. This is a vehicle with top-notch comfort for all 5 passengers.
Thoughtful touches are everywhere. I discovered that each headlamp assembly has its own tiny message or icon. The lights are also adaptive, and they swing from side to side at night as you turn. They work great and give a sense of modernity to this classic.
The rear cargo area is larger than the Lexus RX and neatly square. Drop the rear seatbacks and it is a twin-bed sized area. Under the cargo floor is a full sized spare – YES! Finally, someone gets it right.
Look up while you doze in back, and the ginormous 2-panel moon-roof reveals the sky above.
This rig is a looker. We received a lot of compliments on this Jeep. The look is all-Jeep but still modern and fresh and upscale. Everything this vehicle looks, it actually is.
Dubs baby. 20 inch rims and all season on-off road tires. How did Jeep fit these and still make the ride sharp, but very comfortable over rough roads? Few automakers can do that at any price point.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit with Quadra-Trac II 4WD and Select-Terrain is all-weather and all-road capable. Leave the car in automatic and let it decide which wheels need power, or select the best match, including full 4×4. The gear shifter is attractive, good to hold and upscale. The PRNDL is becoming endangered.
This vehicle has all the most modern driver aids. The adaptive cruise control is as good as it gets on the highway. The vehicle will also prevent you from a forward collision in some situations. In the event of a zombie apocalypse, tap off the anti-collision button to run down some undead.
This vehicle is equipped with a diesel engine which is its best and worst feature. If you need it, you will love it. If you don’t, Jeep has other excellent engines that can suit a range of needs and applications. 420 ft-lbs of torque is amazing for pulling a trailer, but just 240 hp is a let-down when accelerating to merge into highway traffic. The 26 MPG we got in mixed driving is about 20% better fuel efficiency than we would have gotten in a Toyota Highlander or Lexus RX 350. However, the fuel costs significantly more, so is there an upside? CO2 emissions are better than Jeep’s other engines, but not better than other competitor’s gasoline engines.
Diesel vehicles require special fluid to meet modern emissions standards. The very rare fill-up is done next to the fuel nozzle. A dashboard meter can be called up to check the level.
The navigation system includes a real-time traffic map and suggests the best route. Why don’t all luxury cars do this? Setting up your route is easy, adjusting the volume of the commands simple, and settings just make sense. Navigation does not get better than this.
This vehicle perfectly melds rugged American toughness with the quality expected of the best European and Asian luxury vehicles. The Grand Cherokee is “right-sized”, capable of trail running, road-tripping, or date-impressing all in the same perfect package. If you want a 5-passenger sport utility vehicle that can pull your 7,000 pound boat and trailer, go mud-whomping with the best off-roaders, and be an excellent daily luxury car, you will not find a finer vehicle than the Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 4×4.
