Project Datsun 240Z – Autoinsane get’s down and dirty.

This is one project car you will definitely have to follow. I have recently acquired an early 70’s Datsun 240Z with the intentions to build it into a fun show & track day car. Once we pick the car up in a couple weeks we will be sure to post some more photos. We will keep you up to date along the way as we build this beautiful project car.

If you have any suggestions or input on ideas for the build, please be sure to comment as we would love to hear from you the readers on what you would like to see done to the Datsun.

If you are a reading this article and are a parts manufacturer for various Datsun 240Z products, we ask for you to please get in touch with us. We would love to talk with you about possibly including and writing about your products during our restoration of this car.

Until next time when we bombard you in a couple weeks with photos of the car when we pick it up ; we leave you with a teaser cell phone photo:

I’m starting a build on a 280Z. My plans are to section the body about 2 to 2.5 inches through the belt line. This will require a shorter engine or dry sump it for ground clearence avoiding a large scoop on the hood (a short, wide scoop might be necessary). In addition, a small chop to the roofline (1 to 1.5 inch) will add grace to the angle of the rear roof line. Do away with rear quarter windows. The present interior is super spacious and will still be comfortable to drive afterward, even with roll cage. Flare the rear fenders about 5 inches and add big and slightly smaller wire wheels for the Ferrari 250GTO look. Power plant is Yamaha/Ford 3.0 DOHC SHO backed by 5-speed manual. Coat with China Red base/clear coat and white gum balls. Shaved handles and knerf bars in place of bumpers.
