Bangle to leave BMW and the automotive industry

The head of BMW’s design group, the famed Chris Bangle, is quitting the company “to pursue his own design-related endeavors beyond the auto industry”

BMW is replacing Bangle with Adrian van Hooydonk- the companies current head of design for the BMW brand.

Bangle is well known for his influence on the current 3-, 5-, and 7-series along with the Z3, X5, and X3.  He also had a hand in the design development for Mini Cooper and Rolls-Royce.

He joined BMW in 1992 after working for Opel and Fiat.  He’s credited with a large part of the success BMW has seen in the last decade.
