Citing the current economy and depressed auto sales, Nissan has dropped out of next year’s Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) in January and the Chicago Auto Show in February.
Auto Shows are notoriously expensive. Nissan Corporate spokesman, Alan Buddendeck, was reported as saying the choice to pull Nissan from the two shows is a result of the economy, not the shows themselves. Nissan believes they did enough new product announcements at last week’s LA Auto Show. Buddendeck did not say how much money Nissan expected to save by not attending the two shows but added, “It’s not a small line item on your marketing budget.”
Despite the build up for Detroit in January, the next large scale auto show is scheduled for early December in Boston- The New England International Auto Show. There is no word if Nissan is still planning on attending.
