The people over at Porsche decided to buy a Nissan GTR of their own to perform some “comparison testing”. Who would have ever thought that they would be skeptical of the 7:29 track time at the Nürburgring and the claims Nissan made about the GTR against Porsche vehicles. “This wonder car with 7:29 could not have been a regular series production car,” says August Achleitner, the 911 product chief for Porsche, speaking in an interview with CARSguide. August Achleitner later declared in the interview that Nissan must have been using semi-slick racing tires to achieve that time as opposed to the tires that comes on the production version.
Achleitner also discussed how their research clocked the GTR at 7:54, the 911 Turbo 7:38 and the GT2 at 7:34. But in Nissans defense I will say that Porsche needs to perform such a tests on various days with various drivers. Everything from weather conditions, to different racecar drivers comes into play when determining a final fastest lap time. My question for Porsche is are they planning to be doing this again once they get their hands on a Chevy Corvette ZR1?
